If you have covered your pool, remember to check periodically and remove any debris formed above the cover and also check underneath the cover just to ensure that no unwanted dirt is down there.

Depending upon the region you live, make sure that wind or snow doesn’t put stress on your cover. Attach the cover, water bags, and lawn anchors securely so that they don’t come loose.

Water chemistry

Water chemistry balancing is not as demanding as it may seem, but it is a very crucial part of protecting and maintenance of your pool. Keep a check on your pool pH, alkalinity, cyanuric acid, and calcium hardness that they are not out of there standard ranges because it can cause damage to your pool equipment and surfacing.

During winters, your pool water and pH should be balanced weekly at a minimum. You can also use algaecide, which prevents the formation of algae inside the pool during the winter.

Equipment Maintenance-

Whether your pool is covered or not in use, dirt and other contaminants can still enter the pool water. So, remember to keep an eye on the filter gauge, perform the backwashing process, and clean your filter as per the given recommendations.

You should also don’t forget to check on your own pool pump, heater, and other functional parts just to make sure that there are no leaks and everything is working correctly. You should also install Onga pool pumps, which are high-quality pumps that come with long term life and are suitable for all-weather seasons.

Freezing weather-

If your pool is kept uncovered or contains some water during the winter, the cold and freezing weather can freeze and expand the water inside the pool, which can cause damage to your equipment and plumbing. To prevent all of this, just keep an eye on your freeze guard to ensure that the equipment has better circulation when the temperature decreases. This will help you to avoid expensive repairs from frozen equipment and plumbing.

Clear out unwanted debris-

During the offseason, as you cover your pool, a layer of debris starts to form on the surface of the pool. So, remember to empty your skimmer baskets, pump baskets, floor cleaner containers, and cleaner bags. This will help you to keep your water and equipment safe and clean. Removal of the debris should be done on a weekly basis so that when you uncover your pool, it will be nice and clean and also make your life easier in the spring.

Clean your pool surfaces-

By maintaining clean walls, floors, and other pool surfaces will prevent the growth of algae inside the pool. Several methods such as skimming, vacuuming, and brushing out organic debris on a weekly basis is a great off-season pool care habit. This will save your time dealing with dirty green water in the spring.

Make sure that you brush hard on the areas where algae formation is more, including behind the ladders, steps, and corners. This will keep the pool surfaces clean and will prevent the formation of algae at a faster rate.

Water level-

The pool water level is an important thing, which should be monitored correctly. Always make sure that your pool’s water level is correctly topped off to prevent the damage to your pump and will keep the pool primed.

The correct water level always depends upon the climate you live in. If you live in a warmer environment that doesn’t experience any freezing temperatures, then your pool water level should almost be filled to the top during the winter.

If you live in a cold environment, your pool water level should be four to six inches below the skimmer during the winter period. By spending a small amount of time examining your pool weekly, your off-season pool care maintenance will make a significant positive impact on opening your pool in the spring and summer season.

Open early to protect water-

Due to the winters frozen temperatures, it slows down the reproduction rate of microorganisms; as it gets hotter, they reproduce more quickly. If you open your pool early and begin to treat before it gets too warm, it will give you a jump start over algae and will keep your pool clean and maintained.
